Extraordinary

Extraordinay is defined as going beyond what is usual, regular, or customary. I would argue that this is what sets PVES apart from other schools. Our staff shows up and does whatever it takes for the students that walk through our doors every single day. It is doing the ordinary things in an uncommon way, going beyond what is expected that sets us on the path to success. I want to challenge you in this last month of school to finish strong in an extraordinary way. Our visitors from last week would agree, you are doing the right work extraordinarily well. Keep up the amazing work! It has eternal value for the students in your classrooms.

A look at what is happening around PVES...

Our intervention team has been working diligently alongside teachers to best support our students.

In third grade PLC, the teachers brought their CFA, sorted them out, and created a team game plan for how to best support the students who were still not proficient. Many of our teams are doing this now, and we are excited to see our students grow!

Fourth grade teachers sorting data and doing some error analysis in order to plan action steps for interventions. They used this information to divide up students to send to other classrooms for some reteaching and extension.

Our Guiding Coaltion, Mr. Moore, and Mrs. Shealy receiving feedback from our Solution Tree visitors from last Thursday.

Mr. Little and our 5th Grade Olympics participants. Mr. Little did a great job preparing our students and coaching them at the event. We had 4 gold medals, 1 silver, and 4 bronze. Our students represented our school well and showed PVES pride! It was so encouraging to see them cheering and celebrating one another.

Next week is Teacher Appreication Week and we excited to celebrate the amazing educators that make PVES such a special place to work and learn!

From PTSO: It's an 80s Themed Teacher Appreciation Week for the Best Teachers Around!

Sign up to reserve your spot Friday, May 6th: Teacher's: 5-minute Massage (signupgenius.com)

A special member of the community wanted to provide breakfast from Eggs Up Grill for our staff on Thursday, May 5th. This will be set up at 7:00 a.m. Thank you for all that you do for our students and community!

Important Information for PVES Staff:

Teacher Surveys: Teachers are asked to please make sure they have completed the School Climate Surveys by the end of this week. If we can get all teachers to complete these by the end of this week we will have a blue jean week the following week. If you have not completed this step, I will send you an email to remind you and include the steps to follow. This information goes on our school report card and we need all of our certified teachers to complete this. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Student Surveys: Students are also expected to complete these climate surveys. We will set aside Monday, May 2nd's Pride Time to ask you to please have your students complete these surveys. In the past, this has only been completed by our fifth graders. Now the State Department asks that all of our students participate. Homeroom teachers will receive an email with directions on how to access and administer this survey. Please let us know if you have any questions or issues before administering.

Lunch Visitors: We are continuing to welcome parents for lunch. They need to check in at the front office and wait in the atrium area until your class comes by. They are eating in the courtyard area. Please do not prop the door open. You can let them back in on your way back from the cafeteria. Thank you for your help with this!

Testing Information: We will have our mandatory testing training on Wednesday, April 27th at 3:30. We will have some of our music challenge fun before the 3:30 meeting if you want to get there at 3:20. Please plan to stay for the entire meeting because this one typically runs long. We will make sure to wrap things up by 4:30. We will have our TDA field test on Friday, April 29th and will be in normal test mode as a school. We will not have morning related arts. (Third grade teachers, we will make sure to get to you to give you a 15-20 minute break later that day.) Students testing in small groups will need to remain in your classroom and their test administrator will come by to pick them up. We will not do make up tests for this day.

Prepping iPads for Testing: It is imperative that homeroom teachers take some time on Monday, April 25th during normal class meeting time to prepare iPads for testing. Please review these slides from Thomas McAuliff with your students before field testing. All staff will need to review these slides so you are familiar with the online tools tutorial (OTT) and the tools available to students. Let us know if you have any questions. Sarah Durham emailed out reminders that students should not be using staff members iPads to complete testing.

Library End-of-Year Reminders: The last day to check out any new books is Friday, May 6th. All library books are due by Friday, May 13th. The first class in each grade level to turn in all books will receive a reward. Our district Battle of the Books competition is this Wednesday, May 27th at 4:00 p.m.

Art Show: This Tuesday, April 26th we will host our annual Art Show. We are excited to host this event again for your students and their families. Students worked on an art piece/project that will be framed and displayed with other students art work around the gym. Parents, teachers, and students are invited to drop in and browse the art gallery. Parents are welcome to purchase their child's framed art work that evening. Mrs. Nix emailed out about volunteers to assist with this event. If you are able to help, please send her an email. We will begin setting up for the event after dismissal.

Behavior Reminders: During this final month of school we want to ensure that we are providing engaging lessons and remaining consistent with our expectations and supervision. Please make sure that students are supervised very closely at recess. Remember elementary students should not have phones during school. Some of our students do have cell phones due to transportation after school. These should remain off and in a bookbag at all times. If you have a behavior issue we ask that refer to this flowchart when determining next steps. If an office referral is necessary be sure to submit this form. It will email administration directly and we will call for the student. Please do not drop students off in the front office as administrators may be in an IEP meeting, interview, etc. Thank you for your help! We want to finish this year strong and appreciate your assistance.
