Happy New Year!
This is the first blog of 2022 so let me say Happy New Year to you! I hope you have enjoyed your break and found time to relax, refresh, and recharge. The new year brings about a great time to refocus, set goals, and reflect. This is also a great time to do the same with your students. As we return from break on Monday, please remember these words. Take some time to refocus and revisit your expectations for procedures and behavior and make sure you take time to practice. Remind students of their purpose and the goal to learn and lead each and every day. Be sure to reflect on your lessons and make sure you are making the most out of every moment you have with your students. I want to also remind you that not all students enjoyed the break. Some missed you and are so ready to be back. Others will have a difficult time transitioning back to the routine. Consider this as you spend time this week welcoming them back. As always let's show our PVES Pride in all that we say and do!
Some things to celebrate...
We had a blast at our staff Christmas lunch on Friday. Thank you to everyone for participating. Take a look at some of the fun moments below.
(The winning team!)
Mrs. Nicole McGaha did a wonderful job hosting our guided reading PD. Remember to reach out to her if you have any questions about setting up your guided reading groups for success. It was a blast searching for reindeer!
Important Information for Staff
Olweus Class Meetings: Monday it will be a good idea to take the first part of Pride Time to reset and go over routines, procedures, and expectations. The next two weeks will be short weeks so we will not have our normal class meetings. We will pick back up with these on January 24th.
Pride Time: Please make sure that you are being intentional with every moment of Pride Time. This is a carved-out sacred time for intervention and acceleration. Students should be focused and on task whether in a small group with the teacher or working independently at their seats. Teachers will be working on analyzing data and creating action plans to make the most out of this time. You will want to make sure that you have routines and structures in place on the front end to allow you to implement these action plans. Remember restrooms should be used before Pride Time begins during homeroom. Students should not be leaving to go to the library during this time. If you need help setting up this time please reach out to Mrs. Horn, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. McGaha, or Mrs. Tollison.
Data Meetings: We have completed winter MAP testing. Over the next two weeks, we will be working to analyze data and create action plans for students. Our goal is continuous growth and improvement. We want to be looking at our instruction and lessons as well as what our students are doing to see how that relates to our data. We will discuss some pieces collectively as a grade level and then we will also meet with individual grade level teachers. An administrator will be assigned to your grade level and will be in touch to set up your individual meeting. Feel free to bring anything that you have already worked on when analyzing your data. We will announce our school growth soon. Thanks to everyone for getting our students focused and for celebrating their successes.
Upcoming PD Day: January 14th will be a professional development day and will be held at our school. We will be doing some PLC work and will be allowing you time to work with your grade levels. We will have more information to come and an agenda for everyone. There is no school on January 17th for staff or students.
SLO/GBE: Certified staff members working on a modified SLO/GBE will need to have their final conference on or before January 12th. Please make sure you have your data uploaded and are ready to complete this process when you meet with your evaluator.
COVID-19 and Protocols: The district is in the process of revising our current protocols. Mr. Binnicker sent these out before break and asked for questions or feedback. We will make sure to communicate any major changes and that you have access to this document. One reminder is to please if at all possible make sure that students are three feet from one another to limit the likelihood of a student having to quarantine. Most of you found a way to make this work while still keeping students in groups/pods. Also, please be patient as we return from break with Nurse Silletti. She will be working through messages and trying to assist people who have questions about quarantines. Thank you for your help with this.
