Our Mindset Matters

It is officially the fourth nine weeks. The school year and the time we get to spend with our students is coming to an end faster than we know it. In this nine weeks, we can tend to let our minds wander to everything we haven't gotten to yet. We think about things our students don't know yet or problems we will see happening around us. It is during this time that we need to reflect on our mindset to ensure that we are failing forward and looking at every bump in the road as an opportunity to get better as we continue moving forward. Our students need for us to show them that with each failure is an opportunity for success. We can do hard things, but we first have to believe that we can. I want to challenge you to think of at least one thing that you have decided was too hard to do at this point in the year. How can we make this happen? Who do you need for support to achieve this? We will see change when we decide that change IS possible.

A look at some things happening around PVES...

Teachers across grade levels celebrated MAP growth with their students. Students were excited to see their growth displayed.

We have some competitive students and teachers in our building. The best part is that this is also a reflection of learning taking place. Keep working hard! This is the last week for our Dreambox/Reflex challenge.

Our students are still learning how to navigate friendships and peers at school. They are in need of guidance and your OLWEUS time is a perfect opportunity to truly impact your students.

Need to Know Information for PVES:

End of Nine Weeks Reminders
We want to remind everyone that we will be having our PRIDE Practice ceremonies and Writing Wall of Fame breakfast this Friday, April 1st. If you have not done so already, please complete the PRIDE Practice certificates and place them in this folder to be printed and laminated. We also want to remind you to complete the Writing Wall of Fame slide for your class found here.

Conference Day - Feedback for Next Year
Our district has asked that we provide feedback about the use of a Conference Day in the fall. In the past, the district has reserved the October professional development day to meet with parents for conferences. This year, they are deciding between continuing to use this day for this purpose vs. using it to provide further professional development for our professional learning communities.  We would like to hear your feedback on this matter. Please use this Google Form to submit your preference for the October professional development day.

MAP Meetings
MAP testing can be considered formative or summative. Summative means that it is the final opportunity for our students to show mastery of the content. Formative means that it is used to inform our next pieces of instruction. If we change our mindset from this being a summative assessment to a formative assessment, we change the way that we intervene for our students. The data from MAP is a perfect opportunity for us to gauge areas where we can support our students. To guide you through this process, we would love to meet with homeroom teachers during your planning on Wednesday, March 30th. During this time, we will use the current reality of where our students are to create the next steps for where we need them to be.

The end of the year has a LOT going on. We are working on ways to have our parents into the building for our end-of-year celebrations. More information is to come in regards to this. I know you are at the end of the blog and you are tempted not to watch this video. I want to encourage you to watch this 3 minutes clip to see how changing our mindset affects students long term. The teacher, Mr. Jensen, could have easily looked at this student as a problem. Instead, he saw an issue and thought about how that could be navigated in a positive direction. How we think affects how we react. Our mindset matters.

Be a Mr. Jensen.
