Excellence
Last week we had the opportunity to grow professionally through collaboration, learning from experts, and planning for the weeks to come. In my session, our presenter challenged us with an activity that I would like to share with you. I would even ask you to pause and participate in the same activity. She asked us to take out our cell phones and find a picture of someone that we are willing to fight for or do anything for. For me, it was my daughters. For you, it may be a child, a niece or nephew, a godchild, a cousin, or another loved one. Then we had to think about this question, is what I am doing every day good enough for them. She followed up by asking us to make a commitment to ensuring that when we say all means all we mean it and we remember the face of that special person. She charged us with the mindest of "not on our watch" will we let this person receive anything less than excellence. If you skipped over the quote above, go back and read it again. Excellence is doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way. Are you pursuing excellence in the way you teach, plan, prepare, manage, and show up every day? Is that good enough for your special person? Remember, I am not asking for perfection, just a commitment to doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way- excellence.
Things to Celebrate at PVES:
Check out this video created by A1 regarding Friday's PD Day. Thanks for your hard work last Friday and for showing PVES pride as you strive for excellence.
Third-grade students had a wonderful time learning in music class this week playing Boomwhackers. Mrs. Tollison even got to join in on the fun! Way to go Mrs. Fitch for creating fun and engaging lessons.
A huge thank you to Park National Bank for providing breakfast items, refreshments, and these journals for our staff on Friday.
Ms. Barber's class went on a Bear Hunt a couple of weeks ago. A huge thank you to Melissa Thomas for capturing this fun adventure by photo and video. Thank you Ms. B and team for striving for excellence and making sure that all does truly mean all! We love to see your students learning and growing. Keep up the great work!
Students in PE are working on cup stacking. It has been amazing to watch these students stay determined and persistent as they learn a difficult skill. Students are able to set goals and sign the posters outside the PE room when they have achieved a certain time. Teachers, you may want to stop by and see your kids doing this one day. I feel a staff competition in the works!
We got to celebrate fractions schoolwide on Monday with some cookie decorating. Thank you to some of our teachers on math planning teams to get this organized. We love when students can see that learning is fun!
Some of our teachers participated in reviewing new science and social studies materials for the upcoming adoption. They spent time reviewing resources, comparing standards, and viewing presentations. Thank you for your time and dedication. We look forward to hearing your thoughts as you share out with our teachers soon!
Important Information for PVES Staff:
Digital Citizenship and Ipads: This week we will continue to discuss digital citizenship with our students during our Monday morning class meetings for Olweus. I was able to join in some classrooms last week and saw teachers doing an excellent job teaching students how to be safe, responsible, and respectful with technology. Homeroom teachers, we will again send out a presentation that you can use during this time. I would also encourage our staff to read back over the A1 Digital Innovation handbook if you have not done so in a while. It was a great refresher for me about our expectations for school technology. It is also helpful to remind students of the purpose of the technology which is to add to their learning experiences.
Twos Day, February 22, 2022: Most of you have probably realized that this Tuesday is a really special day. It is 2/22/22 and falls on Tuesday. We would love to take some time to celebrate this fun day. Mrs. Plowden has created a document that has some ideas that you can do as a classroom teacher. We also want to encourage our students and staff to dress in sets of two or twins on this day for fun. See the graphic below! We will also have the Woo Hoo Wagon coming around to offer treats to our staff. We hope you have some fun on this day!
Walkie-Talkie Reminders: Please remember that we do want to be careful about sharing student information over the walkie-talkies. If you are calling someone on the walkie it is helpful if you will identify who you are and a very brief explanation. If you are calling for the nurse, make sure you have completed a pass unless you are on the playground or have an emergency. If you are calling for a custodian, they will be on channel 3 and will also need you to include who you are and your location. Remember admin should only be called on the walkie if it involves weapons, fighting, refusal to leave the room, or threats to self or others. If there is a discipline issue, you can refer to the flowchart to assist with these issues. Once a referral has been submitted an email is sent to the administration team and we will call for the student as soon as we are able to do so. Finally, walkie-talkies should only remain on if you are outside, in the cafeteria, or in transition. These should not be on during the day in the classroom so that learning is not being disrupted.
