Celebrating... YOU!

Our staff works so hard throughout the year and we want to take some time to celebrate you. Thank you for showing up each and every day for our students. It has been a challenging year for many reasons. You continue to rise to the challenge for the students in rooms each and every day. This past week we were able to see that all means all... teachers invested in seeing students grow and achieve. We had students going around the school celebrating MAP successes with folks throughout the building. Students and teachers were reflecting on MAP scores, daily habits, and goals for growth. When we return from break, we look forward to having some data conversations and creating action plans to ensure the learning of all students. For now, enjoy the blog, and be sure to read to the end to find out how we will celebrate you this week!

Let's celebrate some MAP successes!

Positive phone calls home to share MAP growth.

These are ALL of our students. Teachers all around the building worked to help our students excel and push themselves!

Students will rise to the goals you have set for them. It was awesome to hear our students talking about their goals and how they are going to meet them. We loved having students come to share their growth with us. Be sure to follow us on our staff Instagram account @pvesgrowsandglows for more!

Virtual Literacy Night

Thank you to Mrs. McGaha for her hard work putting on our virtual literacy night. Teachers can continue to turn in any packets they receive. She will get book vouchers to students as she gets the packets.

Remember to stop by and add to our Merry and Bright board across from the teacher boxes in the front office. It has been awesome to read about the amazing folks we have at PVES. Remember to take your light with you before you leave on Friday. Post it somewhere when you need some encouragement and a reminder that you are doing great things.

Cognia...We are DONE!

The interviews are complete, the work is submitted, and the scores have been calculated. We will find out our final score in January, but they were very complimentary of our students, staff, and community. The work you do matters and does not go unnoticed. Please see the comments made below:

ALICE Drill... Take-Two!

Thank you for being prepared for our drill last week. The weather seems to be more cooperative for us to do our make-up drill on Wednesday, December 15th. We will communicate this make-up date with parents via email and Seesaw. Homeroom teachers can briefly mention this Monday to your students. Please let us know if you have any questions prior to the drill.

Attendance Help

Homeroom teachers are asked to please wait until 8:10 to take attendance. Remember you only need to mark students absent. Ms. Ashley will take care of any students who need to be marked tardy. Students arriving on a late bus are allowed to get breakfast and then need to report directly to the office to sign in. They should bring a tardy pass to your classroom. Ashley will code their attendance appropriately. If you have any questions, feel free to stop by and ask her.

Olweus Class Meetings:

We have finished introducing students to our rules and expectations. Remember to continue to make this class meeting time meaningful and have a plan. You can find lessons and resources here. It also may be helpful to talk to your grade level when preparing these lessons if you need more guidance.  Please be reminded that your OLWEUS meetings should not take your entire PRIDE time. These meetings should end no later than 8:40 This should still allow you time to pull a reading or math intervention group on Mondays.

Reading Reminders and Happenings

Holiday Read Aloud Countdown: Use this link to enjoy a read aloud each day counting down until break. I know this time of year is very busy, I hope this is something your class enjoys! As our read alouds are recorded, I will add them to the countdown presentation.

Gift of Time Read Aloud by McGaha: I’m looking forward to getting into classrooms this week and reading a book to your class. Feel free to enjoy the Gift of Time and have about 15 minutes to yourself while I am reading to your class. If you have not signed up yet, here is the link to do so.

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, December 14th. During your planning period, you will come to the PD room. Our time will be focused on supporting Guided Reading and small group instruction. Don’t forget to bring your completed BINGO card to be entered into our drawing!

Recess and Visitors on Thursday

We are excited to host the Powdersville Middle School Band on Thursday. They will come during our recess time and play outside for students on the playground side. Classes who are normally scheduled to go to the blacktop will report to the playground side. Students are invited to sit on sidewalks, etc. to listen and sing along. Teachers, we ask that you please closely supervise your students during this time as we will have more students on this side but we hope everyone will enjoy it.

Fourth grade will be hosting a special math celebration for their students on the blacktop side all throughout the day. Please help them by keeping students away from this side and away from their obstacle course that will be in the grass area and blacktop on this side.

Friday Fun!

Friday is Grinch day for our Fund Friday. Students may wear their favorite Grinch attire for $1. Teachers and staff are also encouraged to join in. We will send out a link for our students to view the fifth-grade chorus and strings concert. Our students have worked hard and we want to celebrate their work and talents. Following the concerts, we will begin our class parties. A room parent should have been in touch with the homeroom teacher to arrange for a snack/treat for students to enjoy. We are working on showing the original Grinch cartoon movie school-wide. We have a link to send this out and will get it to you before Friday.
