Gratitude

As I write our blog for this week, I am sitting on my back porch enjoying a beautiful fall day. I am reminded about the importance of pausing and making time to rest in an attitude of thankfulness and gratitude. This school year started off with many challenges that we quite honestly were not prepared for or even anticipating. Yet, several weeks ago we celebrated the end of the first nine-week period. We embraced fall break and enjoyed a mental health day provided by our district office staff. We wrapped up our most successful fundraiser yet by celebrating school-wide and classroom prizes. We have built relationships with students and our colleagues. In summary, there is so much to be thankful for as we enter into a season of thanksgiving. It is a known fact that one of the best ways to handle stress is to focus on blessings. This week, I want to challenge you to take some time to pause and find some time to write down things you are most grateful for in your life right now. One of the things I am most grateful for is each one of you and how you love and serve the students at PVES each and every day. We also want to make sure that this Thursday, November 11th we take some time to say thank you to our veterans.

A look at the great things happening at PVES...

We are so grateful to have a team of folks who are willing to do whatever it takes to see students be successful. Mrs. McGaha, Mrs. Martin, and Mrs. Horn lead reading intervention groups through the RISE model every Tuesday through Friday for some of our fourth and fifth graders.

Our related arts teachers find ways to include all of our learners. Above, you will find Miss Barber's students enjoying PE with Mr. Little as they played a little Halloween game to practice their motor skills. Below, Mrs. Hughes has students working collaboratively to build catapults and test them at the conclusion of the class.

Mrs. Mott's homeroom invited Mrs. Tollison in to read and to share in their SEL time they have each afternoon. It was wonderful to see students engaging in mindfulness activities, giving compliments to one another, and sharing in things they are grateful for that day.

Mrs. Barnett's students learned how their kindness and actions can have a ripple effect in their classroom community.

Mrs. Walter's students are working hard to build up their reading skills and earn jewels for their successes. We are so grateful for the culture of developing learners and empowering leaders.

Mrs. Skelton has created a "fridge" display outside her classroom to celebrate work that is "fridge display" worthy. What a great way to show students how grateful we are for their hard work and determination.

We are grateful for Ms. Lee and our recycling team who show up each and every Friday. These students are leading the way, and we are so thankful for how they serve our school.

Important Information for PVES Staff:

Olweus: This week we will be focusing on lesson 4 that can be found here in our folderPlease be reminded that your OLWEUS meetings should not take your entire PRIDE time. These meetings should end no later than 8:40 like in previous years. This should still allow you time to pull a reading or math intervention group

Veterans Day: This Thursday, November 11th we will be using our entire Pride Time to celebrate our veterans and their sacrifices. We will mention this in our morning announcements. We will also ask that you share two read-alouds during Pride Time, one from our own veteran, Mrs. Amelia Skelton, and one about the White Table that will be on display in our cafeteria. We will send a separate email with some suggested activities and a link to the two read alouds. Thank you for your help to show our gratitude to our veterans.

Visitors: We have the wonderful opportunity to host several visitors this week in our school and showcase the wonderful things taking place. Monday we will have student teachers and teacher residents touring the school. Thursday we will have visitors from the instructional team at the district office coming to observe our collaborative team time (PLC). Thank you for welcoming these folks and for showing PVES pride!

Treat for You: Lunch will be provided for you this Wednesday, November 10th as a way to show gratitude from people in our community for the hard work you all do each and every day. A huge thank you to Derek and Missy Rick of Tate Realty (Hunter Walter's parents) who will be providing Chick-fil-a box lunches for our staff.

Thriving Thursday: We are back on our regular schedule for our Thriving Thursday classes this week. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding two weeks ago when we had to cancel. We will pick up with the schedule located on our master schedule under the "second nine weeks" tab. Please make sure your students are prepared for their classes and remember the expectations regardless of the teacher.

Make-up Pictures: We will have make-up pictures on Friday, November 12th in the library. They will be set up to start at 9:00. We will make an announcement to call for each grade level and then one final call before they leave. Staff members are also asked to make sure you have taken a fall picture. These pictures will be used for our yearbook.
