Finish Strong
We are in the home stretch with 11 full days of school left. You get to determine how those last full days of school will be spent. It is easy to let up and simply fill the time. Or you have the option to be intentional and innovative in these last days. What is something exciting and creative you have wanted to do to push your students this year? Remember that our students thrive on routines and behavior issues decrease when there is high engagement. How can you plan exciting and fun learning opportunities for your students to keep their engagement high and push them as learners? Remember how you start is important, but how you finish is what matters most! #pvespride
Great things happening at PVES...
Of course, we had to follow through with our fundraiser rewards as we talk about finishing strong. Your admin team was dunked and slopped a couple of weeks ago. We are working on getting the video put together for you to share with your students.
These students were able to celebrate their strong finish in the RISE program this year with Mrs. Horn, Mrs. Martin, and Mrs. McGaha. We are so proud of them and how everyone in our building works hard to ensure that all students are learning at high levels.
Ms. Barber's class loves PE with Mr. Little. We appreciate all that Mr. Little does to support our teachers and students. He is going to help us finish strong this year with a fantastic field day.
Thank you to all the teachers who worked with Ms. Barber to provide buddies for related arts and recess this school year.
Important Information for PVES Staff:
iPad Collection: We will be collecting third and fifth graders iPads on Monday, May 16th in the library from 8:30-11:00 a.m. Please review the schedule here for collection times. Teachers need to use these instructions to prepare iPads for collection. Teachers need to bring students in a line with iPads and chargers. Third-graders' iPads and any new (8th generation) iPads will be placed in an envelope with the student's name on it after check-in. These will be returned back to the students next school year. Any fourth or fifth grade student with an older iPad will bring chargers as well but these will be replaced with a new iPad next year and will not be placed in envelopes. There will be two stations to check in. Third graders will need to enter the library near the circulation desk. Fifth graders will enter near the office. Someone will check in the iPad and place it in the appropriate tub/area. Students may then line back up in the hallway with the class. Teachers will be asked to please help supervise and monitor students during this check-in process.
Grades: Grades will be due Wednesday, May 18th at 4:00 p.m. Grade verification will be ready on Thursday, May 19th. Please carefully check over these. Grades will be stored on Friday, May 20th. This will be in preparation for our awards days the following week. Teachers are reminded to include comments on behavior for all students. Awards will be given for honor roll and highest averages in reading and math. If you have any ties for the highest average please let Mrs. Horn know so she can assist with decimals.
May 20th: We will have a different schedule on May 20th with several exciting events. We will be having our Writer's Wall of Fame breakfast before school at 7:25 for the fourth nine weeks. Parents are invited to attend this breakfast with their child(ren). Writers will be sent to their classes by the 8:00 bell. We will then welcome our guest for Real Men Read. We will have books in the library for them to choose from as well as some breakfast items. Mrs. McGaha will do a quick introduction and explain the purpose of the day at 8:15 a.m. Readers will then report to your classroom. The seniors will be doing their signing day this morning as well. We will not be participating in the signing ceremony but we are excited to host them for a senior parade. This year all of the seniors will walk through the elementary school in a parade-style with our students waiting to celebrate them. Feel free to make congratulations signs for them. The parade will begin at the high school at 11:05. They will walk the breezeway with the 7th and 8th graders greeting them. They will then visit the elementary school. Mrs. Cole said the seniors are very excited to see the elementary school, their former teachers, and the students. We will make an announcement when it is time to line the hallways.
Summer Warehouse Orders: Patty Ellison will be sending out information regarding the summer warehouse orders. Please make sure you read these directions carefully. The orders are due on June 3rd. Feel free to sit down as a grade level to determine items needed for the next school year. These items will be delivered over the summer and put in your rooms for next year.
End-of-Year Items: We will be putting end-of-year checklists in teacher boxes on May 23rd. This will help you with preparing for summer. Any staff members not returning or moving rooms will have a separate section that you will need to complete. We will also be sending out an inventory list to all homeroom teachers. Please go through your materials and make sure that you can verify that all curriculum, professional resources, etc. are located and accounted for before leaving for the summer. The final turn-in date for all of these items is June 3rd.
Awards Day: See the awards day information below. Feel free to share this on Seesaw with your parents. All ceremonies will be held in the classrooms. Parents can sign students out for early dismissals from the classrooms. Teachers will have certificates in their boxes. If you need additional certificates see Patty Ellison in the front office. Fourth Nine Weeks honor roll materials are on the counter behind Ashley's desk. HERE is the description of the awards and agenda for the ceremony. Related arts teachers will review their sections and get names to you of students who will be recognized for their classes. Please be sure to recognize your fourth nine weeks pride practice recipient on this day as well. (Pride Practice certificates for excellence should be completed and added to this folder by this Monday afternoon.)
IEP Meetings: We continue to have IEP meetings this week. This week we will have 25 meetings. Teachers are reminded to be in attendance for these meetings and provide input and insight when needed. Thank you to all involved for putting great plans in place for our students.
Testing and Make-ups: We will have some make-up testing this week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Ms. Lee has sent out information to teachers regarding who will be completing testing and where they will need to report. A huge thank you to her for her hard work on testing and making sure we were set up for success! One more test to go this week on Tuesday for your fourth graders. We will be on a regular schedule. Please remind all students to remind silent in the hallways when traveling to related arts.
PLC and Thriving Thursday: We will have our final Thriving Thursday classes of the year this week. Our teachers will be meeting in their collaborative teams doing PLC work. We want to finish this process strong! Thank you to all who have made this year a huge success so we could ensure that all our students were learning at high levels.
Field Day: Mr. Little has been working hard to prepare a fantastic field day for our students. He has worked with Powdersville High School to secure the football stadium for the events. For those of you who have been here in the past, this will look different from our previous field days. He will be sending out more information to homeroom teachers soon. Parents are welcome to attend. They will sign in at the field. Anyone wishing to take their child for early dismissal will need to sign them out with the teacher at the field.
May 25th: We will have third grade reporting to the stadium from 8:30-10:30 and can purchase snowcones for $1. Our fourth graders will eat lunch earlier and report to the stadium from 11:30-1:30. They will get bag lunches and eat in their classrooms before going out. They will also have the option to purchase snowcones for $1.
May 27th: Fifth grade field day will be from 8:30-12:30 at the stadium. We will do a clap out for our fifth graders as they head to field day. There will be a route through the school and we will ask all of our students and staff to line the hallways for them. We will celebrate and cheer them on as they go through the hallways. Parents will be able to line the sidewalk down to the stadium to cheer on the students if they would like. This field day will be a class competition style with first, second, and third place winners. Fifth-grade classes will also be served bag lunches after field day and will eat in the classrooms. Due to their schedule of events, fifth-graders will not do snowcones on their field day. (An ice cream celebration is scheduled for them on May 23rd provided by PTSO.)
Staff Updates for 2022-2023: Mrs. Horn, Mrs. Martin, and I have been working diligently to ensure that we continue to hire new folks who will embrace our tradition of excellence and ensure that all our students are learning at high levels. These new folks are very excited to begin their journey with PVES! With these new additions to our staff for the 2022-2023 school year, we still believe the best is yet to come!
