Thank You Teachers
This week we are celebrating the folks who show up every day and make magic happen in the lives of our students- teachers. I believe PVES has the best of the best. This week we want to shower you with love and appreciation. Thank you for all that you do for the students who walk through your classroom doors each and every day. You are making a difference! The best is yet to come for each one because of your incredible impact and influence. On behalf of the students at PVES we say...
Our strings students did a fantastic job at their concert. The gym at Wren High School was packed with parents, family members, and teachers. Great job to Mr. Velasco for his incredible instruction and support in this program.
Powdersville Elementary was recognized at the Drive game last Sunday for having over 40% participation in the Reading All-Stars program for the past 3 of 4 years. A special thanks to Ms. Black, our teachers, and our students for making this happen.
Third graders attended an onsite field trip with Scaly Adventures this past Thursday. They spoke with students about overcoming fears and taught them about various reptiles.
We were able to host visitors from Anderson 2 this past week at PLC. Word is getting around about the great work our teachers are doing at PVES. It is amazing to see the leadership and growth in each of you. We trule have the best teachers around!

Important Information for PVES:
IEP Meetings: We are still in the middle of IEP season for our special education teachers. As you all know, this is an incredibly busy time for our Sped Team as they work to schedule meetings, prepare IEPs, collect data, etc. We ask that you be flexible and understanding as some of these meetings will cause them to readjust their schedules. It is also important for our general education teachers who are invited to the meetings to be present and be active participants in the meetings. Finally, an administrator (or guidance counselor) is required to be at each of these meetings to serve as an LEA so please understand that we will do our best to be available to you as soon as possible.
Cell Phones: It is not necessary for our elementary students to have cell phones at school. Some of our students do have them because their parents want them to have them for communication after school when they get home. The expectation is that these devices are to be off and completely out of sight in a backpack. Students should not have these out at all during the school day and should not be using them to communicate during the school day. This was communicated to parents in our May "In the Know" and it is also in our handbook and school board policies.
Student Surveys: Students are also expected to complete these climate surveys. We will set aside Monday, May 2nd's Pride Time to ask you to please have your students complete these surveys. In the past, this has only been completed by our fifth graders. Now the State Department asks that all of our students participate. Homeroom teachers will receive an email with directions on how to access and administer this survey. Please let us know if you have any questions or issues before administering.
Lunch Visitors: We are continuing to welcome parents for lunch. They need to check-in at the front office and wait in the atrium area until your class comes by. They are eating in the courtyard area. Please do not prop the door open. You can let them back in on your way back from the cafeteria. Thank you for your help with this!
Behavior Reminders: During this final month of school we want to ensure that we are providing engaging lessons and remaining consistent with our expectations and supervision. Please make sure that students are supervised very closely at recess. Remember elementary students should not have phones during school. Some of our students do have cell phones due to transportation after school. These should remain off and in a bookbag at all times. If you have a behavior issue we ask that refer to this flowchart when determining next steps. If an office referral is necessary be sure to submit this form. It will email administration directly and we will call for the student. Please do not drop students off in the front office as administrators may be in an IEP meeting, interview, etc. Thank you for your help! We want to finish this year strong and appreciate your assistance.
Library Reminders: The last day to check out library books is this Friday, May 6th. All Battle of the Books quizzes are due by this day as well. All library books are due back on Friday, May 13th. We will be working with Mr. McAuliff, Ms. Durham, and Mrs. Black to have iPad collection schedules created and sent out. We will check back in 3rd and 5th grade iPads on Monday, May 16th. We will check in 4th grade iPads on Wednesday, May 18th. Any students needing to finish make-up testing will check theirs in once they have made up all test sessions.
