Be Merry and Bright

It is definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Hopefully, you have had some time to read over our Merry and Bright staff board located across from the teacher boxes. We also want to encourage you to jot down a special note to celebrate some of the bright things happening around our school. This can be such a busy time of year but it is important that we make time to slow down and enjoy the little moments. Make sure to be intentional with these next nine and half days. These are the days when our students need us to be purposeful and innovative, showing that PVES Pride as we continue to develop learners and empower leaders!

We have great things going on around PVES...

Students enjoyed the PVHS Jazz Band this week during our arrival time.

Teachers are pulling small groups and working on essential skills with their learners.

Mrs. Mott and Ms. Renjilian both displayed their students' understanding of main idea in innovative ways. It is so great to walk the halls and see recent student work displayed for other students and staff to enjoy.

Mrs. Walters is making MAP a holiday experience by using their MAP growth to grow the Grinch's heart.

Cognia Update

We are now entering the interview phase of Cognia. This week will be our real interview week for Cognia (December 6th-7th, and 9th). Our focus group teams have their information. We will be conducting these in the PD room so that room will be off-limits during the actual interview week. We hope to receive feedback on Thursday, December 9th, and look to be finished with the process before leaving for Christmas break.

ALICE Drill

We will have our violent intruder drill this Friday, December 10th. This week be sure to think through your room and where you would instruct students to go during the drill based on the information given. A letter was emailed to parents last Thursday afternoon informing them of our drill. The presentation from our last staff meeting can be found HERE and the presentation to share with students can be found HERE. Make sure to spend some time during our Olweus class meeting time to discuss this presentation. You do not have to spend a lot of time discussing the "what ifs," but you will need to make sure students know and understand the importance of listening to the direction of the adult in charge, do not ever let anyone inside the school at any of the doors, and to always make sure to be quiet when they hear the announcement signal. These are true always regardless of a drill or emergency. Please feel free to stop by if you have any questions before the drill. Also, just a reminder to please keep your walkie, first aid bag, and class roster with you when in transition. It is also helpful to have this all in a location by your door for substitutes. You can make them aware of these items and their location in your sub plans.

Winter MAP

We will be conducting Winter MAP testing on the mornings of Wednesday, December 8th, and Friday, December 10th. Homeroom teachers, please make sure you have been goal-setting with your students and talking about MAP testing. We will need for iPads and chargers to be at school on Tuesday, December 7th and to remain there for testing on Wednesday and again on Friday. Remember to set up your testing sessions prior to the testing day and assign the correct test and accommodations. HERE is the help video from the fall if you need a refresher on how to do this.

Guided Reading PD - December 14th

Mrs. McGaha will be hosting a Guided Reading PD entitled "Don't Let the Grinch Steal Your Guided Reading" on December 14th for all homeroom teachers during your planning period. A Guided Reading BINGO card was placed in your box last week. Over the next two weeks, we encourage you to work toward completing the BINGO card for an opportunity to be entered in a drawing. You can bring your completed card to the PD on December 14th or turn them in to Mrs. McGaha or Mrs. Horn prior to the PD.

Update: Staff Christmas Party

We wanted to give an update on our Christmas celebrations. Thursday, December 16th PTSO will be providing lunch for teachers, instead of after school. Teachers will be able to go to the PD room to fix a plate and gather some goodies/surprises. Someone will take classes to lunch to get their trays. Teachers will meet their classes back in the hallways and head to the classroom to eat lunch. All classes will eat in the classroom on this day. On Friday, December 17th we will have a staff Christmas lunch in the Multi-Purpose Room and other festivities beginning at 12:00. Remember December 17th is a half-day for students with dismissal at 10:30. We will not have related arts on this day.
