Stay Focused

Often we can find ourselves starting to lose focus and caught up in distractions this time of year. The hustle and bustle of the season as well as the shorter days can get the most of us during this December season. I want to remind you to stay focused. Keep your goals in front of you and challenge yourself to keep moving forward, making time to stop and have many mini celebrations along the way. You are doing such important work that will greatly impact more than you could ever begin to imagine. So stay focused on this work. You are amazing!

A look at the wonderful things happening at PVES...

Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Godfrey had their LAUNCH students staying focused during the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving with this awesome challenge. They researched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, built balloons, and floats, and then coded their paths along the streets of "New York." What a fun and innovative way to embrace the holidays while staying focused on learning and leading!

Welcoming New Faces at PVES

We are excited to welcome some new faces to our PVES family. Starting tomorrow, Monday, November 29th you will be greeted by Ms. Ashley Major, our new attendance clerk. Ashley is excited to join our PVES family and is going to do a fantastic job. Thank you for your patience as she learns this new role. Mrs. Karen Turner will be in the office to assist as well while Ashley receives training this week. Thank you for making her feel welcome.

We also want to welcome part-time speech pathologist, Stephanie Lamb. She will be at PVES Tuesday and Thursday afternoons starting this week on Thursday. We are excited to have her working with Mrs. Redmon and our supporting our students.

Cognia Update

We are now entering the interview phase of Cognia. This week will be our practice week for Cognia. Our focus group teams have their information. Next week will be the actual interviews (December 6th-7th, and 9th). We will be conducting these in the PD room so that room will be off-limits during the actual interview week. We hope to receive feedback on Thursday, December 9th, and look to be finished with the process before leaving for Christmas break.

ALICE Drill

We will have our violent intruder drill on Friday, December 10th. This week be sure to think through your room and where you would instruct students to go during the drill based on the information given. You do not need to start discussing this with students this week. We will send a letter home informing parents of our drill prior to this. The presentation from our last staff meeting can be found HERE and the presentation to share with students can be found HERE. Please feel free to stop by if you have any questions before the drill. Also, just a reminder to please keep your walkie, first aid bag, and class roster with you when in transition. It is also helpful to have this all in a location by your door for substitutes. You can make them aware of these items and their location in your sub plans.

Upcoming MAP - Staff Meeting Wednesday, December 1st

We will be conducting Winter MAP testing on the mornings of Wednesday, December 8th, and Friday, December 10th. We will have a staff meeting this Wednesday for homeroom teachers in the library at 3:20 to discuss MAP testing and goal setting. We are asking that our teachers take some time to discuss goals with students prior to this winter administration.

Guided Reading PD - December 14th

Mrs. McGaha will be hosting a Guided Reading PD entitled "Don't Let the Grinch Steal Your Guided Reading" on December 14th for all homeroom teachers during your planning period. You will find a Guided Reading BINGO card in your box. Over the next two weeks, we encourage you to work toward completing the BINGO card for an opportunity to be entered in a drawing. You can bring your completed card to the PD on December 14th or turn them in to Mrs. McGaha or Mrs. Horn prior to the PD.

Save the Date! - Staff Christmas Party

To Send or Not to Send

Please remember that it is important to keep students in class and at school if possible. We do want to be mindful of sickness and still have our exclusion list- new or worsening cough, loss of taste or smell, and fever. The graphic below may be helpful when trying to decide whether to send a student to the nurse. This was provided by Nurse Cynthia at the beginning of the year. Also, make sure you are sending students after completing the electronic health pass found HERE or in our Teacher HQ.
