Learning
This week we will have various opportunities for our folks to learn and grow. At our opening meeting, we defined what it looked like to be a learner. Through this activity, we found many similarities between learners and leaders. I want to challenge you this week to embrace the professional developments, training, collaboration, etc., and look for ways to learn more and eventually lead with your new knowledge. Be an active participant, take notes, ask questions, listen, and explore new ideas. Learning should never stop because we should always strive to get better.
A look at the awesome learning taking place at PVES...
Learning is for all at PVES! Ms. Black works with students from Ms. Barber's class in the library.
Fourth grade made learning fun and tasty with their science unit!
Ms. Grier uses manipulatives and small groups to reteach during Pride Time.
Teachers in all grades are working on finding ways to reteach and reinforce learning during our intervention block (Pride Time).
Important Need to Know Information for PVES Staff:
COVID-19 Reminders: Mr. Binnicker would like for staff to continue to model wearing masks per his email sent out last week. Remember we really do not want to have to quarantine students as close contacts. Please make every effort to have your desks arranged in such a way that students are sitting three feet from another student. It is also very important to make sure students are 3 feet during small group, partner work, etc. Some students were sitting very close to one another in classrooms when they were away from desks. We really want to try to limit the spread in the classrooms and three feet helps! If you have a student who has to quarantine, you will want to be sure to connect the student to your virtual learning app. Homeroom teachers, look for an email from Ms. Kendall with information regarding how to code and track attendance.
Olweus Class Meetings: We will postpone our kick-off until we have an opportunity to train all of our new staff members on our Olweus program. We hope to have a virtual training for our new staff on Wednesday, September 29th. Our kick-off would be Monday, October 4th. New Best, please look for more information about your training in an email closer to the training date.
Cognia Update: Please continue to look for evidence and write up your explanation of your evidence. We hope to meet back together on Wednesday, September 22nd for a final reading of each standard. The goal would be for us to switch with other folks in our teams in order to proofread and provide feedback. Thank you for your assistance with this process.
SLO/GBE: We will be meeting this Wednesday, September 15th to walk through evaluations this year. We will meet as three different groups- GBE, SLO, and Recertifications with SLOs. Your meeting locations and groups will be sent to you on Monday. We are able to do a modified SLO just as we did last year for those of you who were with Anderson One last year.
PD/Training:
On Monday we have a small group from our staff who will be participating in CPI Training at PVES in the gym. (You have been emailed and should have signed up in PD Express). Those participating can wear jeans on this day. You will want to be able to practice restraints. We will have staff members from other schools joining us as well. Thank you for welcoming our visitors. The Multi-Purpose Room will be closed to classes on this day. Mr. Little emailed out directions for teachers whose classes have PE and directions for classes scheduled for the blacktop for recess on Monday. Thanks for your help!
On Wednesday we will have a guided math PD for our induction teachers and teachers new to PVES. This training will take place in our PD room. Teachers, please bring your laptops. Mrs. Horn will be leading this PD and has secured either a morning or afternoon sub for you. Please make sure that you leave very detailed plans for your sub and remind students of your expectations.
Guided Reading: Mrs. McGaha sent out some helpful information regarding setting up guided reading groups. Now that teachers have levels and MAP data it is time to begin setting up these structures and routines. Please feel free to reach out to Mrs. McGaha, Mrs. Martin, or Mrs. Horn with any questions or assistance. They are all happy to help!
Eggs Up Grill Spirit Night: Thank you to the many of you who have signed up to serve at our Eggs Up Grill Spirit Night. You are welcome to wear jeans on this day and we ask you to please also wear your PVES shirt for this year. We are hoping this night will be a hit with our students and their families! If you have not had a chance to sign up, you can do so HERE!
House Points: We will now be collecting house points in the Ron Clark Academy App beginning Monday. Mrs. Plowden sent out an email about this last week. We will no longer be using Class Dojo. This will allow us to celebrate each house member who earns a house point as well as the houses. We hope to have this displayed in our atrium and cafeteria TVs soon. You can also learn more about the app here: https://www.rcahousesystem.com/faq. Remember any staff member at PVES can award a house point for any student.
